Hyundai E&C Holds “The One Festival” Promoting Communication and Harmony – Bolsters Image as Leading Construction Company

Hyundai E&C has turned its 78th anniversary into a day of communication and harmony for the future through a variety of participatory events.

On November 23rd, Hyundai E&C held ‘The One Festival’ to commemorate the 78th anniversary of its founding at and around its headquarters in Gye-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. This year's event was notable for being more than just a formal ceremony and serving as an event company employees could participate in directly and experience a sense of belonging and pride. The event fostered an organizational culture where all members came together as one and excelled in a variety of events, including ▶the Legend of Hyundai E&C, a selection of Hyundai E&C's landmark construction projects chosen by employee vote; ▶the Employee Children's Art Contest, a family-oriented event; ▶the Inter-Divisional Volleyball Competition, where the passion of the company’s volleyball team and employees was on full display; ▶the Sports Video Challenge, featuring participation by on-site employees; and ▶the Cheering Party, where all of Hyundai E&C came together as one.

Notably, the ‘Inter-Divisional Volleyball Competition,’ held at a sports center near the company’s headquarters, drew significant attention as the Hyundai E&C volleyball team, which the company’s employees had cheered for each and every season, now stepped up to support company’s employees. Head Coach Kang Sung-hyung and the players not only gave special lessons to each team but also participated throughout the entire event from the semifinals onward, serving as coaches, managers, and commentators for each team, adding to the excitement of the event. They also took time to interact actively with employees, staying until the Cheering Party, which featured food and beverage catering and a busking performance, and holding an autograph session.

The Legend of Hyundai E&C, unveiled in the 78th-anniversary commemorative video, garnered attention as nearly 2,500 employees voted to select a list of 10 landmark achievements constructed by Hyundai E&C. Securing the top spot with over 1,400 overwhelming votes, the Qatar National Museum was chosen as a masterpiece showcasing both sophisticated technology and non-standard sculptural beauty, with many employees responding that they felt an immense sense of pride after its completion. Following in second place was Korea’s Jang Bogo Antarctic Research Station, which was noted for the difficulties it presented in polar region construction, and third place was taken by the Saudi Jubail Industrial Port, which signaled the beginning of the celebrated Middle East construction boom.

Through the video, CEO Lee Han-woo expressed his gratitude, stating, “The Hyundai E&C we know today exists thanks to the efforts of our employees, who have worked tirelessly, day and night, both in the Republic of Korea and around the world.” He added, “With 78 years of pride stemming from our key role in the history of construction in the Republic of Korea, let us move forward together to become a centennial company.”

Hyundai E&C was founded on May 25, 1947, with the unveiling of a sign for the Hyundai Civil Engineering Company within the Hyundai Motor Company’s headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul. Over the past 78 years, it has built major landmarks and national key infrastructure that have led the economic development of the Republic of Korea, including the Han River Bridge, the Gyeongbu Expressway, the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment Complex, and the Kori Nuclear Power Plant. After first entering the overseas market in 1965 with the construction of Thailand's Pattani–Narathiwat Highway, the company has executed over 850 projects in some 60 countries and was awarded the Golden Accolade for Overseas Construction at the commemorative ceremony marking USD 1 trillion in overseas orders for Korea’s construction industry. This past March, the company held its first-ever CEO Investor Day and is now concentrating its company-wide capabilities to expand its global market dominance, centered on the energy business.
