Hyundai E&C Unveils the Smart Sleep Environment Solution, ‘Hey, Sleep’

Hyundai E&C has set a new standard for ‘Care-Living’ by unveiling its AI-based customized sleep environment configuration technology.

Hyundai E&C’s smart sleep environment solution, ‘Hey, Sleep,’ integrates AI-based sleep data analysis with automation technology to provide integrated control of a wide range of sleep environment factors, including lighting, humidity, ventilation, and sound insulation. It learns the residents’ sleep patterns and automatically adjusts to the best possible conditions, a key feature being its ability to create a customized sleep environment according to individual lifestyle habits and biological rhythms.

‘Hey, Sleep’ goes beyond just promoting deep sleep; it helps encourage a more vibrant lifestyle among residents. Before sleep, it offers meditation sessions to relieve tension, sleep-inducing music, and deep breathing programs. Upon waking, it plays positive messages, famous quotes, and motivational audio to help residents start the day feeling relaxed.

Another notable feature is its proactive, data-driven care system. If frequent tossing and turning or abnormal patterns are detected during sleep, the AI analyzes related data and is equipped with a function to automatically adjust the humidity or ventilation settings for that specific time at night. This sleep data is accumulated and can be provided as a personal report or shared among family members as basic health information.

With ‘Hey, Sleep’, Hyundai E&C has become the first construction company in Korea to obtain ‘Good Sleep Mark Gold’ certification for sleep environment quality.

The ‘Good Sleep Mark’ is an official certification program operated by the Korea Sleep Industry Association (Chairman Jin Young-soo), authorized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. It consists of a sleep environment quality certification granted to products and services that substantively contribute to deep sleep. Among its tiers, the ‘Gold Grade’ is the highest level of certification, recognizing the very highest quality. Hyundai E&C has proven its technological prowess and marketability in terms of originality, verified physiological effects, spatial applicability, user experience (UX) excellence, and industrial ripple effect.

This certification is the first case that involves designing an entire actual living space to be sleep-friendly, rather than a single product like a bed or mattress, and signifies the realization of a space-unit level sleep environment system.

Hyundai E&C is further enhancing the completeness of its smart deep-sleep residential environment by collaborating with healthcare specialists who have expertise in sleep sensing, acoustics, and air conditioning control technologies. Notably, it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the sleep-tech company Asleep to jointly develop an app-based sleep monitoring system and an environmental control algorithm. The AI sensing-based sleep analysis function of ‘Hey, Sleep’ was also realized through collaboration with Asleep.

In addition, the company has applied for two sleep environment-related patents, including a contactless, AI-based sleep analysis technology and a spatial control algorithm. It plans to scientifically verify its sleep control algorithm through clinical research at its demonstration facility in the Yongin R&D Center and at a specialist hospital. With the goal of presenting the research results at world-renowned academic conferences and publishing them in academic journals, the company plans to further strengthen the academic foundation of its sleep environment technology.

A Hyundai E&C official stated, “As interest in a healthy and sustainable lifestyle grows, the role played by the home of the future will become even more important.” The official added, “We plan to further expand the concept of ‘Care-Living,’ a residential space designed for better health, by proposing ‘Hey, Sleep’ as a specialized technology for incorporation at major project sites, including Apgujeong District 2.”

As the first construction company in the industry to obtain a Grade 1 certification for inter-floor noise prevention, Hyundai E&C is making efforts to reduce indoor and outdoor noise that disrupts sleep. This includes applying enhanced sound-absorbing materials to bedroom doors and walls and designing a ceiling structure to minimize noise transmission. The company has also remained dedicated to creating and demonstrating an optimal sleep environment, having been the first in the construction industry to unveil the ‘H-Sleeponomics’ system to improve residents’ sleep in 2020.
