Hyundai E&C started to consider embarking on the Seosan reclamation project in 1977 at the peak of the construction boom in the Middle East region, which was based on the belief that land is one of the most valuable legacies for descendants in this highly populated country. After struggles with heavy seas, Korea’s primary builder successfully created 16,000 hectares of land which accounts for about one percent of the entire country. Hyundai E&C is currently taking another leap to transform the Seosan reclaimed land. The builder is planning to establish the so-called Bio-research Special Zone based on digital technology related to artificial intelligence (AI), big data, clouds and mobility in a bid to build a biotechnology complex as well as cutting-edge research facilities designed to develop future vehicles.
